5" Gauge Maxitrak Ruston
5" Gauge Maxitrak Ruston, built from an older kit but just completed by E.E. This loco has a single motor driving all four wheels via spur gear train and connecting rods on the wheels. The wheels are cast iron with spokes and balance weights. One Fiesta size battery is required fit inside the bonnet. It is fitted with a 4QD 1qd controller and the controls in the cab consist of forward /reverse switch, speed potentiometer and electronic brake (very effective).
The loco is as you can see finished in dark green with distinctive Ruston radiator, it has typical open cab and the connecting rods and dummy brake gear are in red.
These small loco's are good haulers ( up to six people in perfect conditions but will comfortably haul three to four in more normal conditions with gradients etc.
The loco has been tested and runs well, further running in will be required pulling light loads for around one hour.
This is the ideal first garden railway loco, it is very easy for one person to carry without the battery connected.
Managed to get a few outside pictures today but there's still hardly any light so further appologies.
