5 Inch gauge Kerr Stuart Wren class industrial narrow gauge loco
The loco was designed and built by Gerry Bullock in 2005/06. It is based on the dimensions of a Maxitrak Dixie but all parts were fabricated by the builder including the copper boiler and the cast iron cyliders machined from solid blocks! The build quality is exceptionally good with lots of attention to detail. There is a log book with all the specifications in including the first steam trials. This was the builders 11th loco and whilst simple in construction it is very reliable and robust, it was sold to the last owner to finance the copper for a new boiler for a 3.5 inch King class. The loco has done very little work and has only been used by the last owner to potter up and down his garden on portable track. There is no wear in any of the motion work. The paint quality is good and the tank, cab and cylinders are lined in white.
I ran the loco in the garden yesterday and the performance was very good with steam being increased from 45 PSI to blow off whilst driving round and the crosshead pump delivering more than enough water to the boiler. Starting was excellent and exhaust beats even.
